Last weekend I went shopping in Delft and came back with some new blind box toys by KidRobot called Dark Harbor. This is a series of 12 mini figures designed by Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters.
The background story of this series is very interesting. The story (in a nutshell) revolves around a young girl named Lucy Curious, the sole survivor of a ship wreck. Her friend Lord Strange had gone out to find her when her boat never arrived at the harbor. He then finds himself trapped in a hidden world between the living and the dead. When Lucy, who is looking for him, arrives at Strange’s manor she discovers his secret laboratory. Now it is up to Lucy to continue his work in the hope that she can one day bring him back home.
I love the sea and weird sea creatures so this series is right up my alley. When I saw the sneak peek illustrations I was excited and really looking forward to add this series to my toy collection. The wait was long before they finally arrived at shops in The Netherlands but it was worth it!
The actual toys are good but I would be lying if I said there wasn’t room for improvement. Some parts like the arms and legs of Lucy Curious and Lord Strange are a bit fragile. I would like to have seen that the umbrella of Lucy Curious was a separate accessory. I also think it is a shame that the heads can not be turned. From a toy photographers perspective that would make them even more interesting. But overall this is a good mini blind box series. The packaging, the story and the toys… all well executed and very cool! So far I have 7 out of the 12 different mini figures. Usually I don’t feel the need to complete a series but with this one I do. I want them all! I can’t wait to take them with me to the beach and do a photo shoot.
