Road trip: Texel

It is always fun to take the toys with me when I go on a road trip. I decided to take Sadie, one of the Dark Harbor mini series designed by Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters, with me for my first time visit to the Wadden Islands.  It was a two hour drive to Den Helder where I took the ferry to Texel.  When we arrived at the Island we drove to the Kaap Noord beach. After having lunch there we drove further north to the light house. We climbed six floors and 118 steps to the top of the light house. On a clear day you can see the other islands, but it was a cloudy day so all we could see was the beach.

After that we went to Oudeschild, the home port of the Texel fishing fleet where we would spend the night in a B&B. After check in it was just a short walk to maritime Museum Kaap Skil. A beautiful building including an open air museum. Worth a visit if you are in the area!

Day one of our trip ended with diner at fish restaurant ‘t Pakhuus, located at the harbor in Oudeschild.

At day two we just had one thing left on our list of places to see. We went to Ecomare, a seal and bird sanctuary. Here you can see the seals up close and learn more about the animal wildlife at the Wadden Islands.
